Paul Klee var en tysk schweizisk kunstner og kunstteoretiker. Paul Klee blev fdt ind i en musikalsk familie i Mnchenbuchsee ved Bern. Hans mor var fra Schweiz, men i henhold til schweizisk lov, fik han farens tyske borgerskab. Han fik undervisning i violin som barn og blev en dygtig violinist hele livet.
